Q. Jack from Minneapolis:  “You have no idea all I have done.  I don’t think God could ever forgive me.”

A. Dear Jack from Minneapolis:  You have no idea what it cost God’s Son to die for you on the Cross.  Jesus, being God in the flesh was perfect and had no sin of His own that he died for.  It was only and all for your sin.  The Bible says:  “The law of Moses was unable to save us because of the weakness of our sinful nature. So God did what the law could not do. He sent his own Son in a body like the bodies we sinners have. And in that body God declared an end to sin’s control over us by giving his Son as a sacrifice for our sins. He did this so that the just requirement of the law would be fully satisfied for us” (Rom. 8:3-4).

It’s not what you or someone else things that determines if you are forgiven but only what God thinks.  And when God sent His one and only Son to die for you and me, God said that will be good enough, that His Son would pay for all our sin – past, present and future – no matter how bad it is.  “If we confess our sins to Him, He can be depended on to forgive us and to cleanse us from every wrong. And it is perfectly proper for God to do this for us because Christ died to wash away our sins” (1 John 1:9).

Q. Sue from Denver: “I don’t believe what I can’t see!”

A. Dear Sue from Denver: Most of what you believe you have never seen. You’ve never seen air. You’ve only seen the affects of air. I’ve never seen Jesus but once I believed in Him I sure so the effects of Jesus – He revolutionized my life. Before I bowed to Him and ask Him to come into my life, I was a real enemy God and it certainly wasn’t my habit to follow Jesus’ Golden Rule. I can’t explain it. But the day I finally stopped resisting all that Jesus said and was saying in my conscience, and prayed and ask Him to come into my life – everything changed. I certainly didn’t change myself and there is no way I could have. “Jesus said to her, ‘Did I not say to you that if you believe, you will see the amazing wonder of God?’” (John 11:40).

Q. Kimberley from Atlanta: Didn’t Jesus just come to set up another religion?

A. Dear Kimberley from Atlanta: Yours is a great question. But the short is NO! Jesus did not come to set up any religion. The most religious in Jesus’ times were Jesus’ greatest enemies – the Pharisees!

All religions are made up of what their followers are suppose to do to connect to their god or get to heaven. Even people who call themselves Christians, if they don’t know what the Bible says, think they have to do as good as they can and hope their good works out weigh their bad works so they can get to God or heaven. But the Bible says, “For the person who keeps all of the laws except one is as guilty as a person who has broken all of God’s laws” (James 2:10). The point is, if you’re not perfect you can’t be in God’s perfect heaven. And the Bible says, “all have sinned and fall short 0f the glory of God” (Rom. 3:23). And the Bible says, “the penalty for sin is death”, separation from God (Rom. 6:23).

So what Jesus came to do was not set up any religion to do to be able to get to heaven and be with God. But rather, unlike any other religious god, God Himself came in the form of man, Jesus Christ, to pay for our just penalty for all our sin! He was our personal substitute on the cross! As the Bible says, “For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the perfect offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ” (2Cor. 5:21). And again, the Bible says, “And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to have a full relationship with Himself through Christ… now you are saved through faith, and that not of yourself. It is a gift of God, not of works, lest any person should boast.” (2Cor. 5:18; Eph. 2:8-9).

So you see Kimberley, what is true Christianity? It is not a religion of “do’s or don’ts”, as all false Christianity or religions declare but rather it’s a personal living relationship with Jesus Christ, which Jesus accomplished for us when He died on the cross in our place. That’s why Jesus said, “This is the only work God wants from you: Believe in Me who God sent.” (John 6:29). Believe who He is. Believe what He did… dying on the cross for you and then raising from the dead. He is alive now! “If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved” (Rom. 10:9).😊
